We are living in a time when information is everywhere, yet for many Americans, truth feels harder to find than ever. They turn on the news, scroll through social media, or listen to public commentary, and hear completely different versions of the same event. One voice says one thing, another voice says the opposite, and both claim to be right.

If you rely on those voices alone, confusion is inevitable. But as believers, we were never meant to live in confusion.

Scripture tells us in John 8:32 that “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” That promise still stands today. The problem is not that truth has become unclear—it is that many Christians have been trained to look for truth in the wrong places.

Too many believers are trying to discern what is right by comparing one human perspective to another. They watch one news outlet, then another, hoping that somewhere in the middle they will find clarity. But truth is not discovered by balancing opinions. Truth is revealed by God.

God has not left us without direction in uncertain times. He has given us His Word, and He has given us His Spirit. Together, these are more than enough to lead us into truth, no matter how loud or divided the culture becomes.

Jesus said in John 16:13,

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

Notice that He didn’t say the Spirit would guide us into partial truth or popular opinion. He said “all truth.” The Greek word for “all” is πᾶς, pronounced pas. Do you know what it means in English? All. That means, even in the middle of conflicting reports, you can have the clarity and assurance to know the truth.

But this kind of discernment does not come automatically. It comes through relationship.

Many Christians want to hear God clearly, but they spend very little time in the very place where His voice is most clearly revealed—His Word. The Bible is not just a book of principles; it is the foundation for recognizing God’s voice. If you are not grounded in Scripture, you will struggle to discern what is true when other voices rise.

Hebrews 5:14 says that mature believers have their senses “exercised to discern both good and evil.” That word “exercised” is important. Discernment is not a feeling you stumble into; it is a spiritual skill that is developed over time.

You develop it the same way you strengthen anything else: through consistent use.

When you spend time in the Word daily, something begins to change on the inside of you. Your thinking becomes aligned with God’s thinking. Your perspective begins to shift. You start to recognize what agrees with Scripture and what does not, even when it is presented in a convincing way. Truth is not determined by consensus. It is determined by God’s Word.

Without that foundation, even sincere believers can be led astray—not because they don’t love God, but because they have not trained themselves to recognize His truth.

This is why it is so dangerous to let the news shape your worldview more than the Word of God.

The news is not neutral. It is driven by human interpretation, priorities, and often agendas. That does not mean everything reported is false, but it does mean everything must be filtered. And the only reliable filter is the truth of God’s Word.

If our primary input is the world, then our perspective will reflect it. But if our primary input is the Word, then our perspective will reflect God. Whatever we focus our attention on is what will dominate our thoughts.

Romans 12:2 states, “be ye transformedby the renewing of your mind.” That transformation does not happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally replace worldly thinking with biblical truth.

In a culture filled with noise, the believer who is anchored in Scripture will stand out—not because they are louder, but because they are steady.

They are not tossed back and forth by every new report or trending narrative. And they aren’t easily shaken by fear or confusion. Why? Because their confidence is not in what they hear from man. It’s in what they know from God.

This does not mean we ignore what is happening in the world. We are called to be engaged. We are called to be aware. But we are not called to be led by the world.

We are called to lead by walking in truth.

That starts with making a decision about where your trust will be placed. Will you trust the constant stream of conflicting voices? Or will you trust the unchanging Word of God?

You cannot build a stable life on unstable information. But you can build a stable life on eternal truth.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” That means God’s Word will illuminate the next step, even when everything around you feels uncertain. You don’t need to have every answer about what is happening in the world. You just need to stay aligned with the One who does.

When you prioritize time in the Word, you position yourself to hear God clearly. And when you hear Him clearly, confusion begins to fall away. That’s awesome!

You don’t have to live overwhelmed by competing narratives or feel uncertain about what is right. God has already provided everything you need to walk in truth.

But it requires a response.

If you want to discern God’s truth in these times, you must make His Word your foundation. Not just occasionally or when it’s convenient, but consistently.

Set aside time each day to read Scripture. Meditate on it. Let it shape how you think. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring understanding and reveal truth to you. This is not about checking a box—it is about building a relationship.

If you will commit to that, you won’t just navigate these times; you will stand firm in them, equipped to walk in truth and help others do the same. Praise the Lord!
